Spotlight: Won an Irish maiden point on soft; two wins and two seconds from four starts under rules, on latest start warming to his jumping task before asserting after the final fence in a six-runner novice handicap on seasonal/chase debut at Aintree (2m, good); up 6lb but lightly raced and promising, worth this second attempt at 2m4f.
Spotlight: His Irish point win was on heavy going; won at Ffos Las (2m4f, soft) last November on hurdle/rules debut and best form when he belied his huge odds with sixth in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices' here (3m) in March, having held every chance turning for home; trainer reports that this 6yo goes very well fresh and is a great jumper.
Spotlight: Irish point and heavy-ground bumper winner; tailed off in Grade 1 at Punchestown festival in May but useful otherwise as a novice hurdler at this sort of trip, albeit coming up well short when 5-4 favourite for a Chepstow Grade 2 five weeks ago; left Harry Derham for £75,000 two weeks later; some improvement is needed on this handicap debut but he should make a chaser.
Spotlight: Half-brother to three French jumps winners, two pretty useful; dam French 12.5f Flat and 2m-2m3f hurdle/chase winner, half-sister to French 2m3f Grade 1 hurdle winner; all ten races have been in France for Daniela Mele, winning two over hurdles (one on heavy) and one of his three chases; best form when second in Listed handicap at Dieppe (2m6f, soft) in June last time and it's possible that he's been let in lightly for this handicap on stable debut.
Spotlight: Won last season in a point, an Ascot bumper and Catterick maiden hurdle; beaten 26l in 2m4f Grade 2 novice hurdle here on soft ground, albeit appearing to run creditably facing stiff task; while novice handicap chase over C&D last month (badly hampered off pace four out, fell three out) isn't the race to judge him on and he started favourite that day, it clearly wasn't the ideal chase debut.
Spotlight: Far and away the most experienced of these, having appeared in 16 chases; won a Tramore beginners' event in August and a Listowel handicap in September, both over 2m6f; below form in another quite valuable on latest outing; it's also a possible concern that although he won over hurdles on soft and heavy, his top ratings have been registered on better ground.
Spotlight: Smart hurdler in his prime and a dual chase winner for Henry de Bromhead this spring (2m, yielding/good); reportedly bled from the nose when not discredited at Stratford in July on second start for new yard (off since); acts on soft but unproven over this far and chase form needs improvement.

The bold show from Jig's Forge when he was 125-1 in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at the Festival here in March puts him on the shortlist. Jordans Cross won his chase debut three weeks ago but Joseph O'Brien could have the trump card with his new recruit KIM ROQUE, whose latest French chase effort reads well and who has less to prove in the mud than some of these. Jig's Forge is second choice.[Richard Austen] Show less
