Spotlight: Impressive winner of a 6f soft-ground novice at Yarmouth last season and, although beaten at odds of 4-9 when penalised back there in June, he bumped into the subsequent Group 3 Jersey runner-up that day; didn't take up his engagement in the July Cup but still holds the Group 1 entry at Haydock; clearly well handicapped if those aspirations are realistic.
Spotlight: Promising debut last season for Eve Johnson Houghton in a race that worked out well; had no bother defying a penalty to make it 2-2 for current yard in a 6f novice at Doncaster (good to firm; previous win on good to soft) and brings untapped potential into handicaps.
Spotlight: First and third in 6f novices and left behind his quiet handicap debut when a 20-1 winner at Hamilton (good to soft); raised only 3lb since but this race is far stronger.
Spotlight: Well suited by ground softer than good, so all rain welcomed; his Hamilton run on good to soft was respectable given he'd been absent for a while but he looks on a tough mark.
Spotlight: Confined to 7f for all his runs and the winner of two novices on good ground; didn't get the best of runs when a 3l third at Goodwood two runs back and then raced freely with no cover at Doncaster; retains potential and probably quick enough for 6f.
Spotlight: All handicap wins have been over 6f on the AW but he won his novice on soft ground and his latest keeping-on third at Thirsk (good) is up there with his best form; possible.
Spotlight: Seven of his ten wins have been on the AW but he arrives here in a good run of form and was always prominent when second at Pontefract 13 days ago (6f Class 2, good; fine on softer); could get involved.
Spotlight: Both wins at Carlisle where she got going too late in the day to truly threaten when fourth there 11 days ago (6f, good to soft); looks vulnerable 7lb above her last winning mark.
Spotlight: Goes on most ground; career win number eight when ridden out for a head success at Hamilton (6f, good) nine days ago; that was a Class 5 but he's coped at this level in the past off higher marks; could have a part to play.
Spotlight: Useful form in France but it's been a real struggle in her four races in Britain, all 6f handicaps.
Spotlight: Won for a third time over Newcastle's 6f when holding on by the skin of his teeth 23 days ago; races off a 6lb lower mark here back on grass and, although only 1-22 on this surface, he has flashes of smart form; too talented to rule out.
Spotlight: Needs to get his mojo back but he's on a dangerous mark and softening ground would be up his street; certainly not discounted.
Spotlight: Won three times over 6f for Michael Bell; joined this yard for 42,000gns; had a wind operation before a close fourth at York where she had every chance until fading late on; likely contender, though would have questions to answer on rain-hit ground.
Spotlight: Has won seven handicaps (six on the AW) since December, at 5f, 6f and 7f; has shown he can deal with this career-high mark and just never gave his running last time, which is unlike him; not ruled out but wouldn't want the ground to turn soft.
Spotlight: Debut winner; lightly raced filly who proved the form of her handicap debut all wrong when close up in a big field at York (6f, good) last time; that was easily her best RPR and she no doubt has more to offer.
Spotlight: Multiple winner from 7f to 1m, with latest narrow success off 4lb lower at Musselburgh the highest mark he's defied; Lauren Young takes off 7lb this time but he's probably vulnerable going in against the speedsters here (0-4 at 6f).
Spotlight: Dominated a 6f handicap at Redcar three runs back (good to firm) but hasn't kicked on from there and this is a tough race in which to bounce back, especially off his current mark.
Spotlight: Struck form on the AW last year, rocketing up the weights after winning six times from 5f to 7f; placed on turf but 0-23 and was tailed off here two weeks ago after 471 days away.
Spotlight: Six-time AW winner but 0-17 on turf and well held in a weaker race here two weeks ago.

The eyes are drawn to handicap debutant Almeraq who could make a mockery off this initial mark if he's a Group horse in waiting and he does hold the Sprint Cup entry (he was also in the July Cup). However, predictably, he'll be well found in the market and being drawn 1 might not be favourable. The vote goes to APOTHEOSIS (nap) who hasn't had the rub of the green this season in 7f handicaps and, with free-going tendencies a feature in all his races, dropping back to sprinting could suit this Stewards' Cup entrant. Wicket Keeper is also dangerously unexposed, while Badri appeals most among those with higher mileage.[Alistair Jones] Show less
