Spotlight: He had been banging at the door before winning at Newbury last month and he comes here on the back of a cracking run in the Wokingham last week, missing the break slightly and ending up further back than is usually the case; finished his race off well for sixth, however, and this is less demanding; strong form in three AW starts and this July Cup entrant is a major player.
Spotlight: Made all to win a 6f maiden at Southwell last August and followed that with an emphatic success at Goodwood on his handicap debut the following month (6f, good); disappointed on his seasonal return last month but back on track when comfortably seeing off five rivals at Windsor 12 days ago; 4lb higher against much deeper opposition this time and he'll need to improve again; after just six starts that's possible though.
Spotlight: Unexposed 4yo; began his career with two C&D wins and was then thrown in at the deep end in Listed/Group 1 company last summer; had a wind op soon after the Commonwealth Cup and he reappeared in the 5.4f handicap at York's Ebor meeting, poorly drawn and not travelling with much fluency early but powering home to be beaten just 3l at the finish; it's hard to believe we've seen the best of him yet and the return to a stiff 6f will suit; on the downside, he's been absent for 311 days and goes without headgear today.
Spotlight: Progressive 3yo, winning four 6f handicaps (including one here); good efforts in defeat on his last two starts, over C&D last month and then at Haydock four weeks ago when sporting cheekpieces for the first time; trying to dominate this field won't be easy though.
Spotlight: Won twice over 7f for Andrew Balding in 2024; pulled up at Kempton on his seasonal/stable debut in April (7f) but showed his true colours when finishing off well for second at Haydock four weeks ago (6f, good); stiff test at this trip should suit and although a 2lb rise isn't ideal, he's one to consider.
Spotlight: Useful sprint handicapper on his day; as good as ever when second at Leicester in April and he ran creditably in a good C&D handicap last month; not quite in the same form at Epsom three weeks ago but he's one to consider.
Spotlight: His handicap form on AW stands up to the closest scrutiny and last month's Kempton success, where he recorded the fastest sectional for each of the last three furlongs, was another step forward; up 7lb and tackling stronger opposition here but there's still a chance he has more to offer on artificial surfaces; more interesting than most.
Spotlight: Had a fine year in 2024, winning three 5f races, two of them at Listed level; not hit the same heights yet this year but she's dropped 8lb for her efforts; a revival isn't out of the question.
Spotlight: Had some strong C&D form in 2024, winning on Good Friday and also finishing a close fourth in the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes on this card; looked to retain all his ability for his new stable early in the year and he now lurks on a dangerous mark; stall 2 probably not ideal but with a headwind forecast, he might be able to get some cover if dropped in early; far too much ability to discount.
Spotlight: Promise in novice/maiden company on his first three starts before taking a huge step forward when third in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood (6f, good to firm); didn't need to reproduce that to record a wide-margin success in a Nottingham maiden in August; he has undergone wind surgery since last seen and he's an interesting runner against older rivals on his reappearance but the worry is that he's handicapped on the Goodwood run and that form, which is head and shoulders above his other RPRs, isn't entirely persuasive.
Spotlight: Wasn't at his best in 2024, even when winning a messy affair at Ascot last September (6f, soft); first time out not normally the best time to catch him and others are more appealing.
Spotlight: Smart form here as a 2yo, notably a conditions-race win over C&D in October 2022; absent since finishing eighth of 11 in the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes on this card 12 months ago; not handicapped out of things on his return and he's been gelded prior to this stable debut (same owner).
Spotlight: 4-4 on AW when trained by Archie Watson, including a 7f handicap win at Chelmsford off a 3lb higher mark; 2024 was disappointing and he was also well held on his reappearance in Qatar in January; should be of more interest back on AW starting out for a new stable.
Spotlight: Useful form for Karl Burke, Listed placed as a 2yo and fourth in a Haydock Group 2 (6f, soft) last May; well beaten in two runs for Alan King in the second half of 2024 (7f and 1m); gelded prior to his stable/seasonal reappearance and could be the type his new yard coax back to form; dangerous mark if he's ready to roll.

Fiercely competitive. Durham Castle wasn't especially impressive in seeing off more exposed rivals at Windsor 12 days ago but it was still a welcome return to form and he still has the potential for better. Arctic Thunder, Fivethousandtoone (second choice) and the reliable Aramram all look booked for big runs, while revivals from either of the AW specialists Never Just A Dream or He's A Monster aren't out of the question. DRAMA hasn't finished improving on AW just yet, however, and he can defy the handicapper's latest 7lb hike.[Paul Smith] Show less
