Spotlight: One of the top juvenile hurdlers last season and he justified warm favouritism when returned to the Flat for the Chester Cup (2m2f) in May; sixth off this 8lb higher mark at Royal Ascot (2m4f) was right up with that form and he's a player if this AW surface (sole race on one was as 2yo, finished last) proves suitable.
Spotlight: Minor honours in all six AW races but improved overall form when upped to 2m for second in useful handicap at Kempton (Polytrack) in March; he did not get the run of the race when creditable fifth in the Chester Cup six weeks later and, relatively lightly raced, still looks capable of better; such a wide draw is the chief concern but the runner-up came from 19 last year.
Spotlight: Progressive sequence on Dundalk AW preceded his excellent second at 20-1 in valuable handicap over C&D at Easter (2lb higher today); slowly away that day (and hampered over 2f out) but reverted to front-running when well beaten in a rare turf run 24 days ago; only ten races overall, with just the one at 2m, so he's not fully exposed and needs to be in serious calculations.
Spotlight: Usually runs well at Newcastle, where he won this race last year in good style; took a big prize in Australia last October and struck up a solid sequence over the winter; absent 119 days and 12lb higher than 12 months ago, which surely demands a career best, but needs respect.
Spotlight: 2-8 on Flat for the Gosdens, gelded before showing useful form twice (once on Tapeta) staying on over 1m6f last September/October; sold for 200,000gns in October into the premier jumps yard and made his hurdle debut in the Triumph at Cheltenham no less, showing his jumping inexperience however and pulled up at 150-1; this should be much more his cup of tea.
Spotlight: Makes AW debut; no win of any description since October 2022 but his close, strong-finishing third in the Chester Cup (2m2f) last May was unlucky considering where he had to come from; he's not quite lived up to that since but is just 1lb higher today and has to be considered seriously.
Spotlight: Nine races overall and only three in more than three years with current connections; they include however a close second in this race in 2023; he's 4lb lower today and made a satisfactory return from 637 days off when fourth of nine at Kempton (2m, AW; Who's Glen second) three months ago; another big run on this second crack at the Plate may well be in the offing.
Spotlight: Third in this last year off 5lb lower; 6-16 on AW and shaped as if better than ever in April when making up plenty of late ground under another 7lb claimer in a warm but steadily run 2m race at Southwell; his return to turf in the Chester Cup can probably be forgiven and he needs a second look.
Spotlight: Did well at 1m4f-2m last spring/summer and returned from 198 days off with a creditable fourth here (1m4f; 22-1) in May; built on that when close third at Goodwood (1m6f) five weeks ago, having to delay his challenge, and looks worth this second Flat attempt at 2m; shortlisted.
Spotlight: Reverted to Flat for new yard and won three AW handicaps in a row, one over C&D; respectable sixth at Easter when chasing a big C&D prize, though, and tailed off facing a stiff task in May; given a second wind operation soon afterwards; probably needs to hit new heights.
Spotlight: Third and sixth in last two runnings of the C&D Vase on this card; in the groove with successive wins at Hamilton (1m5f/1m4f) this May; however, he's been held off this mark when back up to Class 2 in his three starts since, still in form but suggesting that others will have the edge today.
Spotlight: His march through the staying ranks included going mighty close in the Cesarewitch (2m2f) last October and winning at Goodwood (2m) last month; perhaps good to firm ground helps to explain a lesser show at Royal Ascot (2m4f) 11 days ago; acts on Tapeta but drawn widest and needs to resume progress.
Spotlight: The Chester Cup proved a bit too competitive for the second year running but runner-up off this mark at Goodwood next time and that's up with his best form of recent seasons; close second in this race in 2022 (his peak year) but never-dangerous ninth in it last year (2lb lower today).
Spotlight: His five wins in 2024 were all on AW, three at this track, and he hit a new high when winning in good style at Epsom (1m4f) this April; not discredited there on Derby day off this 7lb higher mark but never having raced beyond 1m4f gives him a big question to answer.
Spotlight: Joined this yard last September and has done well for them on Flat and over hurdles; ran creditably, almost alongside Duke Of Oxford, in steadily run 2m race at Southwell in April (won over that C&D in March); wide draw is a ready excuse for Chester Cup last time and he has each-way chance.
Spotlight: Well held in 2022 in his sole AW race; has been running over hurdles and fences in Ireland, with no win since a maiden hurdle nearly two years ago; sold out of Gordon Elliott's for 9,000gns this February; there's no tongue-tie today for the first time in three years and last jumps season's blinkers/cheekpieces are also absent; peak Flat form and new trainer's record with recruits are something to clutch at, though.
Spotlight: Debut win at this track; reliable at up to 1m6f in form terms for Karl Burke but he didn't look well handicapped after trying some tough assignments; it was the same story on reappearance for new yard four weeks ago and the handicapper needs to show some mercy; more to prove with new trip.
Spotlight: Competitive on AW early in 2024 before leaving that form well behind on turf, including for a rallying win under Mason Paetel at Newmarket (1m4f) last month; played a minor role when upped to 1m6f at Royal Ascot but ran respectably and stuck to his task, so this first Flat attempt at 2m is worth a go.
Spotlight: Disappointing on last two outings, denting his good records both on AW surfaces and at 2m; having been dropped just 1lb, he needs to return from three months off with a career best; good 5lb claimer is enlisted.
Spotlight: Useful on his day at up to 1m6f for the Gosdens; showed plenty of ability on first two runs for new yard this winter, but there were backward steps in his two starts since (February and April); had wind surgery since and is 8lb below his peak mark, but new trip is a concern.

Last year's winner Onesmoothoperator and third Duke Of Oxford, along with Chester Cup winner East India Dock, have all set out their merits pretty clearly, as has the extremely lightly raced 2023 runner-up Golden Rules who is now an 8yo but returns on a good mark. They are faced, however, by a strong group who have not yet had the rub of the green in these top staying handicaps. That might again prove the case for the promising Who's Glen, who will require some manoeuvring from stall 19, and preference is for TRIBAL STAR (nap) who has stamina in his pedigree and gave a taster of what he might deliver when a slow-starting and hampered runner-up in the AW Championship race over C&D in April. Dancing In Paris is feared, but not quite as much as Pappano who has his first Flat start for Willie Mullins and he may present the chief danger.[Richard Austen] Show less
